Daphne in the Brilliant Blue

Daphne in the Brilliant Blue (光と水のダフネ Hikari to Mizu no Dafune?) is a 2004 anime series animated by the studio J.C.Staff and produced by GENCO. It was licensed by Geneon USA in 2004. However, Geneon USA had ceased operations in September 2007 and lost all their titles. In 2009, Sentai Filmworks had picked up the license and re-released the series in two complete collection sets.

A manga version was drawn by mangaka and character designer Satoshi Shiki titled "I - Daphne in the Brilliant Blue" (アイ〜光と水のダフネ〜 Ai ~Hikari to Mizu no Dafune~?), featured in Young King OURs magazine.

Maia is having a very bad day. Her life-long dreams to join the elite Marine Environment Agency wither and die, when, despite everyone's high expectations, she fails the entrance exams. Then, with the loss of her student status, she gets evicted! Penniless, homeless, and unemployed, Maia finds herself in the middle of a shoot-out between fugitive convicts and the Nereides - sexy agents who only take the most high-paying and dangerous jobs. Desperate, Maia agrees to a job in the next Nereides operation - as bait!

Ridiculously impossible missions just seem to fall into the laps of the sexy female agents of Nereides. Yu is usually the calm and collected one, but she nearly loses it when stuck with an abandoned baby.

Shizuka, while trying to protect an injured undercover agent, falls in love hard. Then, the Wang-Chang-Lee Brothers plus their little sister May return again in an attempt to steal Nereides' submarine, Yomogo-1.

Meanwhile, Maia's partial recovery of her lost memory is making some people high up in the Ocean Agency very nervous...

Although Maia's trip to Siberia City to find clues about her past was fruitless, she's still hung up on the faint memories she has about her brother... Could the mysterious man who always seems to save her in the nick of time be him? Then, her inability to concentrate during a routine mission gets Shizuka severely injured, which in turn gets Maia fired from Nereids!
